About Ken Langone

Home Depot founder Kenneth Langone is known as the genius behind the national home improvement chain. He is known for his expertise as a businessman and his unwavering devotion to integrity. What very few people don t know is that Kenneth Langone is a philanthropist of the highest order.

His focuses seem to revolve around education and medicine, but are certainly not limited to those arenas. The Bucknell University and New York University alumnus has been more than generous to his alma maters. To Bucknell Langone pledged $11 million towards the creation and construction of the Kenneth G. Langone Athletics and Recreation Center.

The donation essentially revamped the existing Bucknell athletic facilities and contributed to a series of renovations involving those structures. Owing a good portion of his expertise to NYU s Stern School of Business, the Home Depot founder repaid the school with a $10 million donation in 1999. The donation created the Kenneth G. Langone Part-Time Evening MBA Program, endowed a professorship, financed a new curriculum and established assistance for the school s night students.

In varying roles Langone has contributed as a financier and an advisor to numerous medical charities and organizations. The New York native is a member of the board at the Cancer Research Fund of Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Foundation and was also the guest of honor at a fundraising brunch: Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation s Living Vision Breakfast Honoring Ken Langone.

The Breakfast raised $2.3 million for cancer research. He has been a trustee at NYU since 1997 and has served as Chairman of the board of Trustees for the NYU School of Medicine Foundation and the NYU Hospitals Center. Langone has aided both schools in multiple capacities and has been a driving force behind various breakthroughs as the schools. Ken Langone s activity in medicine also include varying positions at the Ronald McDonald House and the Robin Hood Foundation.
